„Ille est nobilissimus…” O szlachetności króla Węgier Karola Roberta, jego małżonki Elżbiety Łokietkównej i ich budzińskiego otoczenia
Abstrakt
The article characterizes a hitherto unissued speech of the incipit “Medicus est Deus in terris”, known from the only manuscript transmission in a codex from the library of the Canons Regular of St. Augustine in Żagań (Germ. Sagan). The transmission dates to 1384, but the time of the speech’s composition is earlier. It can be traced to 1320–1342, and the author remains unknown. He is distinguished by his erudition in philosophy, theology, astrology, law, medicine. In his views reflected in his speech, the influence of Neoplatonic, but also Aristotelian thought is clear. Syllogisms are used in scholastic argument. Original acrostics and anagrams are numerous. One of the main threads of the speech is to demonstrate the nobility of King Charles Robert of Hungary and his wife Elisabeth of Poland, as well as the vicar of Buda John, and by this means prove that the townsfolk of Buda are also noble. This thread, which is an interesting contribution to the 14th-century discourse on nobility, is given special attention in the article.
