Relacja o trzęsieniu ziemi w Katalonii w 1427 r. w rękopisie gdańskim (Mar.F.256): między średniowieczną historiografią a teologią

Autor

Abstrakt

The 1427 Catalonia earthquake was described in two Latin accounts. One of them was included on the back cover of a manuscript of the Gdansk Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences (shelfmark Mar.F.256). Although the text is known in the literature, the focus so far has been on establishing facts related to the events in Catalonia, neglecting basic issues such as analysis of the manuscript’s contents unrelated to the earthquake or codicological analysis. After analyzing the content of the source and the codicological context, the article compares the text with a second manuscript account (Viennese) and another one not previously considered, i.e. an excerpt from the “Diarium sexennale” – chronicle of Andrew of Regensburg. The analysis made it possible to hypothesize the functioning of the text from the Gdańsk manuscript: it was a historical copy, probably serving the clergy of St. Mary’s Church in Gdańsk in didactics and preaching within the parish.
