Ludwik Musioł – historian of Upper Silesia
Abstract
Ludwik Musioł (1892–1970) was born into a Silesian family in Mikołów. A Polish patriot, teacher and publicist advocating for the incorporation of Upper Silesia back into Poland, he relentlessly studied the history of the region, its cities and towns, parishes, industries, families and communities. Although he authored over 125 monographs as well as countless articles and biographical entries, only a small part of them appeared in print; the vast majority, typed up but not published, can be found today in the Silesian Library. These works demonstrate Musioł’s self-taught skill at interpreting sources, which he always approached critically and confronted with each other, aided by his excellent command of multiple language.
