Activities of the Independent Office (Department) of the Old Wars of the Military History Bureau in the light of work plans and reports from 1927 to 1939
Abstract
In 1927, the Independent Office (Department) of the Old Wars was transferred from the Military Institute of Science and Publishing to the structures of the reorganised Military History Bureau together with its then director Otton Laskowski. In 1936, the Office was upgraded to a Department. The activity of this unit, which cocreated military historiography in the interwar period, is an interesting and not sufficiently elaborated issue. In the Central Military Archives of the Military History Bureau, the source material enabling such research has been preserved. On the basis of the work plans and reports contained therein, the main areas of the unit’s work as well as the assumptions that guided its activities were presented. Such an approach to the subject is a contribution to further research on the Independent Office (Department) of the Old Wars of the Military History Bureau.
