Not just a colonial pioneer: Mieczysław Lepecki’s scholarly and popular activity on the example of the biography of Maurycy Beniowski
Abstract
This article analyses selected interwar publications, primarily pieces situated between reportage and popular historical literature, by Mieczysław Lepecki (1897–1969). Particular interest has been given to his biography of Maurycy Beniowski, one of the ‘colonial pioneers’ who were considered propaganda tools for supporting the acquisition of overseas colonies for Poland at the time. The article presents Lepecki’s works in the context of Polish colonial policy and postulates that their scientific value should be recognised.
