Julian Stachiewicz as a historian of the military and the art of war
Abstract
The aim of the study is an attempt to objectivise Julian Stachiewicz, who is not fully appreciated by historians. Meanwhile, he had excellent military qualifications and his activity had an overwhelming impact on the development of the historical service of the Polish Army in the Second Polish Republic. Stachiewicz was a tireless creator of historical military research and numerous publishing initiatives on the First World War, the origins of the Polish Armed Forces and the Polish–Soviet War. The author of several dozen important publications, he treated history as a study of the experience of the art of war with a view to the future battlefield. He emphasised the special role of terrain in military history.
