The Old Testament approach to the human embryo against the background of other Middle East cultures
Abstract
The aim of the article is to reconstruct the status of the human embryo in the Old Testament within the context of ancient Middle East cultures. The starting point of the conducted research is the reflection on the Old Testament view of the human being. It also discusses law codification: Babylonian, Hittite and Assyrian. The analysis of views concerning nasciturus in the given study is inextricably connected with a social patriarchal system that dominated among all the cultures of the ancient Middle East. A comparative approach to the issue allows a greater understanding of the genesis of the reflection on the status of the human embryo.
