Author Guidelines

Electronic submission: Submissions at the Journal e-mail address (agp@uw.edu.pl) or at the addresses of the Editors (piotr.luczynski@uw.edu.pl and anna.zylinska@uw.edu.pl) are preferred. Otherwise, please use the Journal website for submission.

Procedure: Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least two referees and are not processed further until receipt of the referees’ reports. In case of inconsistent opinions, the manuscript may be sent to a third referee. In some cases an initial opinion on the manuscript may be expressed by the Editorial Board members.

Text: The manuscript should be written concisely in clear language (British English or American English spelling consistent throughout). The entire manuscript, including abstract, text, references, tables, figure captions and appendices should be double-spaced and left justified. Usage of a standard font (Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri), 12 point only, is required. Captions to text-figures and plates should be written separately at the end of the manuscript. The International System of Units (SI) should be used for all units of measurement.

Title page should include: (i) title; (ii) first name(s) and surname(s) of author(s); (iii) full affiliations and address(es) of author(s); (iv) e-mail address(es); (v) optionally, ORCID numbers may be also be added; a corresponding author may be designated if required; (vi) abstract; and (vii) key words (up to seven, preferably not repeating the title).

Abstracts should be written concisely and should be around 200 words.

Citation of references. References in the text, when given in parentheses, should give the author’s surname followed by the year of publication with no comma in between. When authorship of a taxon is being indicated, a comma should be inserted between the author’s name and the year of publication. Use ‘and’ for two authors and ‘et al.’ for more than two authors. The references should include only papers cited in the text (including those in which taxonomic names were created). All quotations must be accompanied by a page reference. Consecutive references within the same brackets should be arranged chronologically and separated by a semicolon; for those by the same author, the years should be separated by commas. References by an author that were published in the same year should be distinguished by suffixes.

In the case of references in non-congress languages, English, German or French versions of the title should be given when available, and the original language stated in square brackets at the end of the reference, e.g., [In Polish with German abstract].

The references in the reference list should be set out corresponding to the following examples:

Repositories of specimens. All specimens discussed and illustrated should be assembled in collections curated by museums or educational institutions (these should be listed in the main text). Manuscripts referring to collections in private hands will not be accepted.

New taxa. It is obligatory for articles introducing new taxa to be registered by the Author(s) in ZooBank (zoobank.org), directly after acceptance by the journal and, by all means, prior to publication. Registration of the article is sufficient, although individual new taxa may be registered as well. The ZooBank registration number(s) is(are) added to the final pdf of the article.

Stratigraphic terms. All chronostratigraphic and geochronologic terms should comply with the most recent International Chronostratigraphic Chart (available at www.stratigraphy.org).

Text-figures. All text-figures (abbreviated as Text-fig. or Text-figs) should be numbered in the sequence of their first reference in the text. The font size should not be smaller than 8 pt.; the line width should not be smaller than 0.2 mm. Drawings and photographic illustrations should be saved as jpg, tiffs or pdf files, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi; upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication, editable versions will be required (CDR, AI, EPS, TIFF) with a minimum resolution of 400 dpi at final size, not-interpolated and not compressed at any stage. Including the legend, they should either match the size of a full page (160 × 220 mm), the width of a double column (160 mm), the width of a single column (75 mm), or must be suitable for reduction to these dimensions.

Plates: Photographic illustrations may be arranged into a full-page format (160 × 220 mm) and are numbered separately (with Arabic numerals) as Plates (abbreviated Pl.). Photographs in one plate are numbered consecutively from left to right and from top to bottom, and each is referred to as a Figure (e.g., Pl. 1, Fig. 2 or Pl. 3, Figs 4, 6−8).

Tables should be numbered in the sequence of their first appearance in the text. Large tables (exceeding a single page size) are recommended to be inserted at the end of the text as Appendices.

Appendices are inserted at the end of the text and include additional data.
