Abstract

We identify a small turtle barnacle rostral plate from the Piacenzian (Pliocene) of North Carolina, USA as belonging to the family Platylepadidae Newman and Ross, 1976. It is named Fountainlepas hayashii gen. et sp. nov. and shows some similarities to the living Cylindrolepas sinica Ren, 1980, but differs significantly in the imbricate structure of the parietes and the presence of basally directed sharp flanges on the external surface.
