A few words on the illuminations of manuscript 8047 V from the National Library in Warsaw
Abstract
The subject of this article is a manuscript from the National Library in Warsaw, with the signature Rps 8047 V, containing parts of the Old and New Testaments. This codex is decorated with numerous pen-flourish initials, as well as – in two cases – gouache initials. Richer ornamentation is found on f. 60r, on which the incipit initials to the Gospel according to St. Matthew depicts the author of the Gospel with Jerome of Strydon. The manuscript, based on analysis, has been set in the artistic tradition of the southern-east German-speaking area, where it was probably created around 1300.
