Aims & Scope

Folia Orientalia is an international, peer-reviewed journal published annually by the Commission of Oriental Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Kraków Branch). Founded in 1959, the journal provides an international forum for original research on the languages, literatures, histories, religions, archaeology and cultures of Asia and Africa.

The journal welcomes contributions from all fields of Asian and African Studies, including:

• Linguistics and philology
• Literature and textual studies
• History and historiography
• Archaeology
• Art history
• Religious studies
• Manuscript and epigraphic studies
• Cultural and social studies

While maintaining a broad interdisciplinary profile, the journal has traditionally had particular strengths in Semitic Studies, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Iranian Studies, Turkic Studies, Caucasian Studies, South Asian Studies, African Studies, and the ancient cultures of West Asia.

The journal publishes original research articles, review articles and book reviews that contribute substantially to the field. All research articles undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.

Articles are accepted in English, French and German.
