The article is devoted to an analysis of the means of emotive sympathy and pity causation in Polish and Ukrainian. The study gives grounds to assert that the representation of causation of these emotions usually occurs with the help of analytical causatives, which consist of an auxiliary verb and the name of the emotion. Syntactic constructions denoting the causation of sympathy and pity were studied at the semantic-syntactic level, i.e., the correspondence between the semantic roles of participants in causative situations (agent, cause, experiencer) and analyzed was their syntactic positions in sentences. Syntactic constructions are classified according to which participant (agent or cause) acts as the subject in the sentence. Based on the analysis, it has been proven that most types of syntactic constructions with analytical emotives-causatives denoting causation of sympathy and pity in Polish and Ukrainian are common to both languages.
